Blend your own Chili Seasoning

Who doesn’t love some homemade Chili on these cold winter days?
Who am I kidding? I love chili all year round. But lets just pretend so that this recipe fits in nice with my seasonal foods.
When we first started working on switching to all-natural and home cooking, things like seasoning packets were something that blew my mind. I felt that using a seasoning packet and cooking it at home was “homemade”. Then I started learning about how much salt are in those packets and then combined with canned beans, the sodium levels are off the chart!
I started making all my seasoning blends at home in bulk. Not only does this reduce the sodium, but it also saves money in the big picture. Then I made a little hanging pouch on the inside of my spice cabinet so that whoever is cooking dinner can easily make a fresh batch as needed.
Chili Seasoning Ingredients
2 TBS Paprika
2 TBS Oregano
2 tsp Cumin
2 tsp Garlic powder
¾ tsp Cayenne pepper
1 tsp Onion powder
2 TBS Sugar (can adjust if too sweet, but it really brings out the flavor)
2 TBS Chili Powder
2 tsp Sea Salt (I prefer Redmond’s Real Salt)
½ tsp Black Pepper
Blend well and store in an airtight container
Ok now what?
1 lb of ground meat (beef, turkey, venison)
2 (14 oz) cans of beans (white, kidney, black) – or ½ cup dry beans per can conversion cooked
1 can (14 oz) fire roasted tomatoes
1 can (14 oz tomato sauce)
3 TBS Chili Seasoning
Yummy Ideas
I love how easy this is to make for anyone in the house. I will “fancy” it up with sauteed onions and garlic sometimes. Our signature way of eating it is with corn bread, shredded cheese, and mayonnaise (yes, I said mayo!)
