Homestead History
In the history of our nation, we’ve never been so disconnected from the land as we are today.
In just two generations, we’ve forgotten the skills and ancient knowledge that once empowered us to survive and thrive without a commercial food system.
And now, as that system shows signs of crumbling, people are asking themselves…
“How did we get here?”
Homestead History is a 36-week American Food and Agriculture Sociological History that gives a behind-the-scenes examination of American History and the shifting agricultural practices that have led to the age of “Big Agriculture.”
We begin with an exploration of the indigenous culture and how they cultivated the land long before the emergence of modern agriculture. And we trace the thread through colonization, slavery, multiple wars, the Industrial Revolution, and the Green Revolution—all culminating in the Modern Homestead Movement.
Homestead History doesn’t just answer the question, “How did we get here?” It provides a roadmap for modern homesteaders who want to know…
“Where do we go from here?”
The Modern Homestead Movement is marked by a learning revolution akin to the Age of Enlightenment. People are thirsty for knowledge and hungry for a grassroots solution to the commercial food system.
